Choral classics from Palestrina to Parry.
The New Oxford Consort will be visiting Chagford and Gidleigh. This group, formed by Gidleigh-ite Freddie Crowley, comprises some of the finest young choral scholars from Oxford and beyond, many of whom are in the early stages of professional singing careers.
Those who remember Freddie’s choral concert in September 2015 to raise money for Chagford’s church bells will hopefully be excited to hear his latest choral project.
On Saturday 22nd at 7.30pm, they will sing a concert in St Michaels’s Church, Chagford — the programme will comprise great works across 500 years of choral repertory, from the 16th century to the present day, including music written specially for this concert. Tickets are £10 (U16 £5) to include canapés after the concert, and can be obtained in advance from Sally’s Newsagents, or on the door.
On Sunday 23rd at 11.15am, they will sing a choral Eucharist service at Gidleigh, bringing their choral expertise to our community’s worship, and making the most of Gidleigh church’s wonderful acoustic which so rarely hears choral music.
Freddie and The New Oxford Consort are thrilled to be able to bring their music to Chagford and Gidleigh, and look forward to what promises to be a memorable weekend of music-making.
